Spring Event with Speaker Wayne Atcheson
(Former UA Sports Information Director and National Championship Historian)
AND Brandon Gibson, former wide receiver and member of the 2011 Alabama National Championship football team

Wayne served as the UA Sports Information Director and recognized five national championship teams (1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941), and added them to the University's Football Media Guide. He is the reason why we celebrate “14”.

Best and the Brightest Attend the 2011 Freshman Send-Off

A huge crowd of the new U of A students from the Charlotte area gathered at the beautiful home of the Yokley's for a Bama-Bound Send-Off Party on Sunday July 24, 2011. New Bama students and their parents and siblings had a chance meet other Bama-bound folks, socialize, eat some good food, and participate in some fun activities. Alabama's recruitment of "the best and the brightest was certainly evident at this gathering!



2011 Spring Scholarship Banquet a Big Success!

The Charlotte, NC Chapter of The University of Alabama National Alumni Association held their Annual Spring Banquet, featuring special guest speaker Baron Huber, Member of the 2009 National Championship Football Team, on Tuesday, May3, 2011 at the Double Tree hotel in Southpark. Over 50 U of A Alumni, friends, fans, and future students were in attendance.

A Nick Saban signed football was auctioned, with $1,850 in proceeds going to tornado disaster relief efforts in Tuscaloos through the UA Acts of Kindness Fund, which goes to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of UA.

The very first Charlotte Area Scholarship was awarded to Miss Diana Freeman. Miss Freeman attends Myers Park High School where she has maintained a 4.29 GPA. She has overcome many personal challenges to excel scholastically, acheive a well-rounded school experience, and earn our scholarship. Conratulations Diana!

2011 Tornado Tragedy in Tuscaloosa
What you can do to help:
Tuscaloos Houndstooth Ribbon

Lake Norman Cares - an organization getting started in the Lake Norman area. They are in the process of hosting a lot of donation drives around the Lake Norman/North Charlotte area for tornado relief. They will be traveling to Tuscaloosa the weekend of May 13th - 15th to deliver supplies. If you know of anyone collecting supplies and needs to find a way to get it to Alabama, they would be more than willing to help. Find them online at http://lkncares.org/ for more information.

Bring needed supplies to a drop-off station. A list of drop off stations:

  • Concord, NC: Venturini Motor Sports
  • Fort Mill, SC: Grace Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill, SC Grace Presbyterian Church

We need more drop-off points in Charlotte. If you can help with this, please let us know via Web post.

Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund - www.givetuscaloosa.com - (205) 758-7588 - The Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce has set up a disaster relief fund entitled "Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund" within their 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Currently, a committee is being organized in order to decide how best to distribute the funds as they come in. This fund will allow the city of Tuscaloosa to continue to administer support into future weeks and months. The process of recovery will undoubtedly take quite a long time.

Charlotte Junior Chamber Turns Alive After Five Into Donation Drive for Tornado Relief - The Charlotte Junior Chamber (Jaycees) in Partnership with AT&T’s Alive After Five turned May 5th’s Epicentre event into a donation drive. They had volunteers for the event to walk around with buckets to collect money. Kellen Butts (kbutts@suitecharlotte.com) headed up the event. Red Cross, but in order to ensure the funds go to the appropriate area, you must specify West Alabama when donating. Any funds donated in this manner through August 31, 2011 will be allocated 100% to West Alabama Relief Efforts.
